10 things I hope to do in Quebec

Yesterday I arrived in Montreal. Everything went very smoothly, including the immigration bit when I got my work permit. So far, I'm loving Montreal as a city. Everybody that we've met has been super friendly and very helpful. I'll keep you updated about the rest of my stay here- I'm here until Friday!

As today is my first full day here, I've decided to do a post in which I can set a few goals and expectations for the upcoming year. Here are 10 things I'd like to do during my time here.

1. Explore Montreal.

I'm spending my first few days in Montreal with the other language assistants. It'll be a great opportunity to explore the city!

2. Learn to ice skate.

There's an ice rink a short walk from where I will be living, all I need is a pair of skates!

3. Make new friends.

I'm excited to meet lots of new people; both language assistants as well as locals.

4. Keep this blog up.

On Wednesdays we wear pink! (and post on the blog).

5. Try poutine.

I love trying new cuisines so I can't wait to try some Quebecois dishes. Although, I will definitely miss crumpets.

6. Improve my French.

I'm excited to tackle the challenging Quebecois accent and explore the similarities between it and the French I've been studying.

7. Explore.

I'm looking forward to visiting new places in North America, not only in Canada but in USA too!

8. Say yes!

A previous assistant told us a story about being invited to go ice-fishing with his teacher colleagues. For those of you who don't know what that is, apparently it involves going to a frozen lake, drilling a hole and sitting around it until you catch some fish!

Saying yes to such unique opportunities as they arise will not only create incredible memories but also push me out of my comfort zone so I can learn and grow.

9. Go shopping.

I'm very excited to buy a proper coat for the Quebecois winter. Remember, temperatures can drop to -30 degrees C..!

10. Settle in.

So far I have only seen a few pictures of the house where I'll be living. I'm looking forward to moving into it, meeting my housemate and beginning to get set up in La Pocatière.
